For
the Official ABKCO Records Rolling
Stones CD's & DVD's visit:
Two
of America's foremost non-fiction
filmmakers, Albert Maysles and his
brother David (1932-1987) are
recognized as pioneers of
"direct cinema," the
distinctly American version of
French "cinema verité." Gimme
Shelter, (1970) the landmark
documentary is a dazzling portrait
of Mick Jagger and the Rolling
Stones on their American tour which
culminated in a killing at the
notorious concert at Altamont.
Founded
in 2005 as a nonprofit organization,
Maysles Institute is committed to
using film to intervene in the lives
of those excluded from the making
process by providing training and
apprenticeships to underprivileged
individuals and by projects filming
groups without a voice.
M
AAs
some of you may know, I traveled and
photographed "The
Rolling
Stones" during their American 1981
Still Life tour and their
European Urban Jungle tour of 1982. I
have produced 5 books on the "Stones"
and spent much time with them.
I
was invited to a show about two months
ago to see the group "Hot
Rocks" a Rolling Stone
Tribute Show. My girlfriend and
I were completely knocked out by the
tightness of the Stones songs but also
the uncanny look a like/move a
like/sound a like and the
wardrobe of Mick, Keef &
Woody.
The
other 5 members are just as strong
including a female vocalist, keyboards
and saxophone player .Songs from the
entire Stones catalogue are covered to
near perfection or downright
perfection.
If
you want to see the "Stones"
up close as I had the pleasure of in
the early 80's, do not hesitate to
enjoy "Hot Rocks"
Rolling
Stones SHOW. Your
Eyes and Ears will not believe the experience.
For us,
it was an amazing "look
back". Enjoy!!
